Tremezzo
Tremezzo is a very popular tourist destination which has offers easy access to the towns of Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio. Situated in the middle of Lake Como, this lakeside town is a great place for lovely scenery. Not only does one get a wonderful view of Lake Como, but also a spectacular view of the mountains as well.
One of the most visited tourist destinations in Tremezzo is the Villa Carlotta, the only historic villa with public access on the lake. This villa is a neoclassical building which is built on steeply tiered ground. Villa Carlotta has striking staircases at the entrance and contains sculptures that were created by Canova and other artists. One of the best times to visit this villa is in the spring. There are gardens outside with azaleas and rhododendron that flower magnificently in the spring time.
There are other villas in Tremezzo that can be seen, however they are not open to the public. The Villa La Quiete was built for the Duke of Carretto in the beginning of the eighteenth century. Although it is not open to the public, it is still a site to see. Outside the villa are beautiful gardens and a wrought iron gate at the entrance which is wonderfully crafted.
Another villa that is private but is a beautiful structure to see is the Villa La Carlia. This villa was built around 1676 and was designed by Antonio De Carli. The villa sits on top of a sloped piece of land with the gardens spread out in front of it. This makes for a wonderful photograph with the gardens in front and the mountain scenery in the background.
Held within the Church of St Maria is the statue of the black Madonna. This statue was brought to Italy in 1917 by catholic Swiss family. The statue was originally located in the basilica of Einsiedeln in Switzerland.
There are tours that can take visitors up to Monte Crocione, which offers wonderful panoramic views of the area. Close to the top, visitors can continue up either on foot or by mule to get a higher perspective of the area.
Tremezzo, the small stretch of land along Lake Como in Italy is a beautiful town, with a lot of magnificent sights. The views from Tremezzo are some of the most spectacular on the lake, as you watch the morning sun on the opposite shores and bask in the warmth of the afternoon rays; indeed wherever you are on this side of the lake, be it in a small cafe or a luxury hotel it is impossible not to be struck by the beauty of the area.
